Formerly a photojournalist at the Skagit Valley Herald in Mount Vernon, Washington, Charles now concentrates on personal projects that explore environmental conservation topics through multi-image stories in monograph format and photographic print collections. He received an MFA in Documentary Photography from San Francisco’s Academy of Art University and a BA in Humanities from Hawaii Pacific University in Honolulu.
A retired Navy Chief, Charles spent twenty years working in locations all around the world before finally settling in Northwest Washington. He and his wife now split their time between Washington and north Idaho..
Charles is a member of the National Press Photographers Association, Professional Photographers of America, and the North American Nature Photography Association.
